Is entrepreneurship an art or science?

Entrepreneurship is closer to art and aesthetics than science and mathematics, as it involves courage rather than will power since entrepreneurship involves venturesome undertaking, experimenting and networking while putting oneself forward.

However,  entrepreneurship is an art as well as science since it involves creative behaviour and innovation which is art and knowledge acquisition (perceived and interpreting business information and converting knowledge into business information) which is science.

Thus, entrepreneurship is called art and science because it involves creative behaviour as well as knowledge acquisition and application.

Who is an entrepreneur?

Baron (2006) described the entrepreneur as a “dot connector” a man who can connect the dots to identify opportunities that create profit and wealth. Moreover, the entrepreneur is an individual who identifies ‘bright endpoints’ even when faced with obstacles and difficulties.
Additionally, Rodermund (2004) found that the entrepreneur is an individual who brings about improvement both for other individuals and for society as a whole and is known for what he/she does such as creating new products, processes and services in the market.
